Bassett, 90, of Hollsopple, formerly of Hooversville, died Dec. 7, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born June 17, 1913, in Benshoff Hill, son of Harry and Minnie (Makin) Bassett. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, the former Ruby Horner; grandson, Brian; brothers: Cline, Albert and Robert; sisters: Velma Hunt, Pearl Hanawalt, Ora Leidy, Hazel Metzger, Clara Bassett and Anna McGough. Survived by these children: Myrna, married to Fred Baer, Friedens; Winona, married to John Zehner, Somerset; Ralph, married to the former Linda Holsopple, Hooversville; Alana, married to Clair Saylor, Rockwood; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Margaret Bassett, South Fork; Mary Bassett, Largo, Fla. And Ivy Tilley, Johnston. Retired teacher and Elementary Principal in the Forbes and North Star School Districts. Former Quemahoning Township farmer and Minister at Hooversville Church of the Brethren. Member of the Hooversville Church of the Brethren, Pa. Farm Bureau, 55-year member of the Stoystown Lions Club, former district executive for the Church of the Brethren and was a member of the charitable trust for the Church of the Brethren Home, Windber; and dean of the three-year Reading Course for the Church of the Brethren. He was honored for 50 years of voting. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville, where a Lions service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hooversville Church of the Brethren. Rev. Gerald Deffenbaugh and Rev. John Eash, officiating. Interment, Baer Cemetery, Friedens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Hooversville Church of the Brethren, Hooversville, Pa. 15936 or Church of the Brethren Home, Windber, Pa. 15963.
