Born Nov. 11, 1917 in Jenner Township, the son of Harvey and Mary (Shull) Baumgardner. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Helen Shaulis, Vera Alexander, Edith Walker and Harriet Cobaugh; brothers, George, William and Charles. Survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Pauline Weigle; daughters, Audrey Jean Ash, Somerset, Patricia L. Weir, Greensburg; sons, Edward W. Jr., married to the former Darlene Suter, and Ronald L., both of Friedens; grandchildren, James H. Weir and wife Kristyn, Pittsburgh, E. Alan Baumgardner and wife Trudy, Friedens, Kenneth D. Ash, Pittsburgh, Kerri S. (Ash) O'Baker and husband Jack Jr., Somerset and Michael S. Baumgardner, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Brady and Brendan Baumgardner, Cory Weir, Chase and Camryn O'Baker; sister Amanda Faye Francis, Virginia; special niece, Dorothea Sottile, Johnstown and numerous other nieces and nephews. An avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Member of the Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM for 58 years, Harrisburg Consistory where he received his 33 Degree in September 1975, Jaffa Temple Shrine of Altoona, life member of NRA, Eagles Aerie 1801, TPA, Somerset Grange and Somerset Historical Society. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset. Worked for U.S. Steel, retired from the former Somerset State Hospital and was self-employed plumber and electrician for numerous years. He also formerly served in Co. "C" Pennsylvania National Guard. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (today) at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Rev. Dr. Herbert R. Hicks officiating. Interment, Berlin I.O.O.F. cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset, Pa. 15501 or to "In Touch" Hospice, 1501 N. Center Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
