Born Feb. 27, 1918 in Johnstown. Son of Orum Levi and Effie (Barndt) Baumgardner. Preceded in death by parents, wife Ruth Louise (Shaffer) Higgins-Baumgardner who died Oct. 7, 1982; brother Bob Baumgardner, sisters, Cede Waterman, Jean Baumgardner and Erma Swick; two step-sons, William S. and Fred B. Higgins, step-daughter-in-law, Kathryn (Harvey) Higgins, and step-grandson John Higgins. Survived by step-daughter-in-law with whom he resided Mrs. Phyllis F. Higgins of Somerset and step-daughter-in-law, Janet M. Higgins of Somerset; grandchildren, Mrs. Marsha Urban of Dover, Pa.; Mrs. Jodi Powell of Berlin; Mrs. Marlene Dwire of Somerset; Beth Higgins Dolan of New Jersey, and Jamie Higgins of Somerset. And great grandchildren, Scott Urban, Rick Urban, Kayla Mills, Brandy Mills, and Carrie Bailey. Brother of Wade and James Baumgardner, both of Johnstown. Member of First Lutheran Church in Johnstown. U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Retired in 1980 with 45 years of service as chief mechanic for the city of Johnstown. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Karen L. Leedahl officiating.
