WILLIAM BAUMGARTNER Dr. William M. Baumgartner, 90, a former resident of Salisbury, died in the Methodist Home, Pittsburgh, on Feb. 22, and interment was in Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Dr. Baumgartner was the son of the Rev. Samuel M. and Victoria Smith Baumgartner of Salisbury. He spent his youth and early manhood in that community. A graduate of West Virginia University, he spent a year in Germany, perfecting his knowledge of French and German. He returned to teach in the university. He later graduated from Drew Seminary, after which he became a member of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the Methodist Church. Dr. Baumgartner was a chaplain in World War I. In 1929 he received the degree of Doctor of Theology. He had a number of charges in Pittsburgh and surrounding towns, among them Beaver, Rochester, and Sewickley. Between pastorates, he taught Bible at Dickinson College, Carlisle. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Hamilton of Wilmington, Del., who preceded him in death 12 years ago. He is survived by three nephews, two nieces and several cousins, among the latter, Mrs. H. G. Bender of Meyersdale and Dr. Elizabeth Johnston, formerly of Salisbury, now of Pittsburgh.
