McKinley Wilkens Beabes, 66, Tullahoma, Tenn., formerly of Somerset, died March 23, 1998, at his residence. Born Sept. 11, 1931. Son of the late Orie and Margaret Beabes. Survived by sister, Mrs. Jonathan (Virginia) Emerson, Swarthmore, Pa. Graduated in 1949 from Somerset High School. Attended U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Retired as a career office of U.S. Air Force. Served with distinction in Vietnam and following retirement became well known woodcarver and luthier. His violins, violas and dulcimers are known for their tone clarity. Interment with full military honors Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Daily American, March 26, 1998 [W1231]
