Beachy, 76, retired farmer, died Wednesday night, April 2, at his home following an illness of 15 years. Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, by a nephew of Mr. Beachy, Rev. Lester C. Fike, of Springfield, Ohio, assisted by Rev. Alonzo P. Fike, pastor of the Church of the Brethren at Accident, Md. Rev. Lester C. Fike took his text from the gospel of St. John, chapter 11, and I Peter, chapter 1 as exemplifying Mr. Beachy's life from the joys of his childhood and youth until and through the sorrows and adversities of his mature years. He paid tribute to his uncle as a good christian man, a kind, loving husband and friend. Rev. A. P. Fike read the scripture lesson and offered prayer. Mrs. H. J. Bender, Mrs. Harry Hoover and Mrs. Harry Yommer, sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," the 23rd Psalm and "Beyond the Sunset," very beautifully. The pallbearers were Harvey Gortner, Jonas Beachy, William Raley, Fred Beachy, Homer Beachy and John Beachy. Interment was made in the Grantsville cemetery beside the grave of his deceased wife, who passed away last December. Mr. Beachy was a son of the late Christian J. and Mary Lucinda (Beeghley) Beachy. He was born at Bittinger, Md., March 22, 1871. He was one of a family of eleven children, only one of whom is surviving - a sister, Mrs. Susan Schrock, of Miami, Fla., and Mt. Lake Park, Md. Mr Beachy married Miss Bertha May Gnagey, daughter of the late Jonas E. and Elizabeth (Swauger) Gnagey of Grantsville on September 9, 1900, Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Mrs. Beachy passed away Dec. 12, 1946. After her death her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Parsons, of Baltimore moved into the Beachy home and cared for Mr. Beachy till his death. Mr. Beachy owned and operated a farm near Bittinger and he and his wife were known for their famous maple sugar products. Mr. and Mrs. Beachy took boarders during the summer months and were noted for their splendid hospitality. Owing to Mr. Beachy's ultimate sickness and helplessness due to mental illness they moved to Grantsville eight years ago, where Mrs. Beachy devoted the remainder of her life to the care of her invalid husband. Before his physical and mental collapse, Mr. Beachy was a faithful and active member of the Accident congregation of the Church of the Brethren.
