BEACHY Mrs. Eva Beachy, mother of Republican County Chairman Wilbert H. Beachy and Mrs. John H. Pritts, both of Somerset, died in the Somerset Community Hospital at 8:20 p.m. last Friday. She had been critically ill for several months, following a stroke of paralysis, which was the ultimate cause of her death. She was born in Somerset, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman, and was 74 years old when she passed away. Her father was editor of the Somerset Democrat for some time many years ago until his appointment to a position in the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia where the daughter, Eva Jane, grew to womanhood. After her marriage to the late Wilbert E. Beachy of Somerset, she and her husband lived in Johnstown for some time, then removed to Somerset where Mr. Beachy died in 1896. Mrs. Beachy lived in Somerset the remainder of her life and was a useful and highly respected member of the community. The best years of her life were devoted to the rearing of her children. She was rewarded by living to see her only son elected burgess of the town for a number of years and becoming a leader of his party in the county. Besides being Republican County Chairman at present, he is the head of one of the most important bureaus of the State Department of Revenue. Mrs. Beachy was organist of Trinity Lutheran Church for 25 years and was a teacher of music for many years, and always prominently identified in musical circles in Somerset. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club and the Somerset Music Club and Trinity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and in the many activities of Trinity Lutheran Church with which congregation she united in early youth. Besides her son and daughter, she is survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. W. A. Ennis of Pleasantville, N.J.; Mrs. W. J. McConnell of Camp Hill, Pa.; Mrs. W. E. Smiley, John and Frank Hoffman, all of Philadelphia, and Barney Hoffman of Windber, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Hauger Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. E. Hess Wagner, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment in Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, directed by Charles R. Hauger, Somerset mortician. Meyersdale Republican, December 18, 1941
