Grantsville, Md., March 20 - Emerson Galen Beachy, Jr., aged 19, was instantly killed while at work at the union Fire Brick's new plant near Jennings, on Friday afternoon, March 15th, by being struck on the back of the head by the swinging arm of a crane, which knocked him into a concrete mixer. His body was not mangled, but he sustained a fracture of the skull at the base of the brain. When the accident happened his wife, the former Miss Mary Criger of Mount Savage, aged 16, had just given premature birth to a child in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale, where she still is a patient, and has not been informed of her husband's tragic death, owing to her serious condition. The young couple were married Nov. 11, 1945. He had been employed at the brick works only two weeks, having previously been employed by his father in the lumber business. The victim of the accident was a son of Galen and Vena (Yost) Beachy, well known residents of the Grantsville community. He was a graduate of Grantsville High School, class of 1944. Surviving besides his wife and parents are a brother, Luther, who is employed in the lumber business with his father, and two sisters, Kay, at home, and Helen, who is attending Catherman's Business School, in Cumberland. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 17, in the Jennings Lutheran Church, with Rev. George Bowersox, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Ross Speicher of the Church of the Brethren. The Mennonite choir sang appropriate hymns. The pallbearers were Olen Bowser, Ellred Stahl, Olen Myers, Emmons Myers, Clark Wilburn and Luther Miller. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Moyer, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moyer and Oscar Moyer of Doylestown, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. M. Beachy and son, Wendel, of Harrisonburg, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moyer and daughters, Lois Jean and Esther, of Inwood, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nissley of Altoona, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. John P. Saylor, Mrs. Victor Witt, Ernest Saylor, Mrs. Lydia Yost and daughter, Elizabeth, Meyersdale; Mr. and Mrs. John Coleman and son, Donald, Mrs. Eliza Yost and Pauline Saylor, LaVale, Md., and Mrs. Clara Foy and Mrs. Playford Glotfelty and daughter, Alice Marie, of Accident.
