Born in Grantsville, May 17, 1872, he was the son of the late Abraham and Cordelia (Mayhew) Beachy. He was the last surviving member of his family, and a member of one of Grantsville's oldest families. He lived here all his life. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Broadwater (Bevans) Beachy whom he married May 27, 1922, one son, James, at home, and Miss Elizabeth (Betty) Beachy, Washington, D.C. Twice married, Mr. Beachy also leaves five children by his first wife, Mrs. Mary (Frantz) Beachy, who died 30 years ago. They are Harry Beachy, serving with the Navy at Seattle, Wash.; Frank Beachy, Smock, Pa.; Mrs. Helen Noel, N. Braddock, Pa.; Mrs. Estelle Reed, Valencia, Pa.; and Mrs. Hilda Baker, Slippery Rock, Pa. His step-children are Lee and Charles I. Bevans, Mrs. R. C. Chaney and Mrs. L. B. B. Taylor, Washington, D.C., and Elwood Bevans, Kansas City, Kansas. A step- grandson, Elwood Bevans, Baltimore, who resided with them several years and five other grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Beachy had been in failing health since April 1947, and confined to his bed since September, on account of a heart ailment. He was a charter member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge, and a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 41, Grantsville. Funeral services were held at the Winterberg Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, with Rev. D. J. Combs, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Harvey Hoover and Mrs. Harry Yommer sang, "It Is Well With My Soul." The pallbearers were Daniel Klotz, Harvey Gortner, George W. Deifenbach, Olen Yoder, C. O. Bender, and L. B. Schaefer. Interment in the family lot in Grantsville cemetery. Relatives who attended the funeral services were the following: Mrs. Estelle Reed and daughter, Maryland Reed, Valencia, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beachy, Smock, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Noel, N. Braddock, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Chaney, Mr. and Mrs. Charles I. Bevans and daughter Sue, and Miss Elizabeth Beachy, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Nell Zeller, Frostburg.
