He was born Nov. 10, 1891, at Jones Mills, a son of David Austin and Fannie D. (Nedrow) Beck. He is survived by his wife, Anna N. (Kalp) Beck, with whom he observed his 72nd wedding anniversary on Dec. 24, 1987; two sons: Merle D., Melcroft; and E. Carl, Indian Head; two daughters: Mrs. Helen Stahl, Citrus Fla.; and Stella Strawderman, Indian Head; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Larry and Edwin Beck. He was a lumberman and timberman. He served four, six year terms as justice of the peace and was a fire warden, towerman and inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters for many years. He was an agent for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company, which later became Nationwide Insurance, from 1944 to 1954. He served as an accountant and did income tax work for many area laborers, farmers, merchants and lumber operations. He established the Longwood Union Sunday School and in 1951 established the Mount Hope Assembly of God Church on Route 31 near Jones Mills, which he pastored until October 1967. He was a charter member of the Melcroft Full Gospel Church, which is now the Melcroft Assembly of God Church, of which he was also a member. Friends will be received at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., Route 711 in Melcroft, today 7-9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Additional viewing will be held Saturday in the Melcroft Assembly of God Church on Route 711 from noon until the hour of service at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Roger Pence officiating.
