Meyersdale Republican, January 25, 1945 --- MARY ALMA* BEGGS Early Friday morning, Jan. 19, a fine old lady of Confluence, Mrs. Thomas George Beggs, peacefully closed her eyes and fell asleep - the sleep that knows no waking. Her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Whitaker, who had been her faithful and loving nurse for many months, was at her bedside. Mrs. Beggs was 88 years of age, death came as the end of a long, well-spent life. She had been a resident of Confluence for many years, the family coming here in the early nineties, and until the infirmities of age bore down heavily, she was active socially. Her nimble wit made her an acquisition to any gathering. She had an extensive acquaintance and was highly respected by her friends and neighbors. Mary Alma Todd was the daughter of Joseph Wilfred Todd and his wife, Sarah Lane Todd, and was born November 28, 1856, in Natick, Massachusetts. Her early life was spent in Woburn, same state. She married Thomas George Beggs, and to this union were born five sons and two daughters. Husband and eldest son, Earl R. preceded her in death. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Thomas G., St. Petersburg, Fla.; John H., New Kensington, Pa.; Charles and Elliot, Confluence, and Mrs. Dora Beggs Wallace, Berwick, Pa., wife of Rev. V. E. Wallace, and Mrs. Elsie Beggs Whitaker, wife of Samuel Whitaker, Confluence. Funeral services were held at her late residence, Sunday afternoon, January 21, at 4 o'clock, her former pastor, Rev. Henry Knoell, officiating. Mrs. Brabazon Rutherford of Uniontown, sang two selections, "Break Thou the Bread of Life" and "It Is Well With My Soul", Mrs. Homer Rush accompanying. Floral offerings were many and beautiful.
