Bell, 81, of Brotherton Road, Berlin, died June 27, 1999 at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1917, in Pittsburgh, son of William R. H. and Edith (Hesser) Bell. Preceded in death by parents; brothers: William H. and Edward Bell; and sister, Elizabeth Leskovitz. Survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Kathryn Countryman; son Douglas McCall Bell, married to former Kathleen Smith of Berlin; grandson David Edward McCall Bell; sisters, Jean Shane of Indiana, Pa. and Harriett B. Garrison of Palm Harbour, Fla.; and brother and sister-in-law Paul and Marie Countryman of Berlin. He was a graduate of Indiana State Teacher's College, a World War II Army veteran where he served as a First Lieutenant in the 453 AAA Battalion, 83rd Infantry. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor and served as captain in the army reserves. He was former owner of David M. Bell Agency, Somerset; former high school teacher; and former real estate instructor for Penn State University. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Former director and vice-chairman of Philson National bank, Berlin. Member and past president of Berlin Lions Club; member of Harry Fisher Post 445, American Legion, Berlin; Somerset Post 554, V.F.W.; Military Order of the Purple Heart; Last Man's Club; Meyersdale Lodge, 554 F.&A.M.; The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh; former member of Company C Armory Board; and former Scout Master of Troop 135, Berlin. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. No viewing at the church. Rev. Melvin A. Kirk Jr. and Rev. Glenn P. Foster officiating.
