Meyersdale Republican, July 26, 1945 BARBARA BENDER Mrs. Barbara (Yoder) Bender passed away at the home of her son, Clarence Bender, near Summit Mills, at 11 o'clock Sunday night, July 22, of infirmities incident to old age ending with apoplexy. She was born in Summit Township (on the farm now owned by a nephew, Joseph J. Yoder) on Jan. 26, 1865, and was aged 80 years, 5 months and 26 days. She was one of a family of 14 children of the late David and Mary (Summy) Yoder, deceased, of whom only one, Annie, wife of R. J. Engle, survives. At the age of 17 years she united in marriage with William W. Bender, who died June 7, 1922. Besides a large circle of friends and many nieces and nephews she is survived by the following children: One son, Clarence and two daughters, Mrs. (Ada) Noah Lichty, Oakland, Md., and Mrs. (Annie) Jacob Zook, Meyersdale, and 16 grandchildren. One son died in infancy, also two grandchildren. She united with the (old order) Amish Mennonite Church in her youth and remained a steadfast member to the end, and always had a strong desire to attend church services as long as her health permitted. Her remains were taken to Niverton church, where funeral services were conducted at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning by Rev. Lewis Beachy, of Oakland, Md., and Noah J. Yoder. Services at the house were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Joseph J. Yoder. Her body was laid to rest, by the side of her husband, in the church cemetery, under the direction of Stanley Thomas, Salisbury mortician. The funeral was largely attended.
