He was married to Anna J. Yoder, of near Meyersdale, Pa., Aug. 14, 1924. To this union were born one son and two daughters, who with the bereaved widow, survive. Early in life he professed faith in Christ and became a member of the Amish Mennonite Church, in which communion he remained a consistent member until death. He was not of a very strong constitution, physically, and having acquired a good education he taught school a number of terms in charge of the public school at the A.M. Children's Home near Grantsville. Later he purchased a home near Salisbury, Pa., and engaged in farming until appointed assistant superintendent of the Home above named, in June 1928. The following year he was appointed superintendent of the home, which position he filled to the time of his death, having been again reappointed at the last meeting of the trustees of the Home during the current year. On the evening of Sunday, Aug. 9, he suddenly became ill; later the attending physician pronounced his illness influenza, but as his illness progressed it was diagnosed as typhoid fever. His condition taking a quick turn for the worse, with seeming other developments and complications, he was taken to the Memorial Hospital to be given the advantageous benefit of better facilities and equipment. All means and efforts proved futile. The funeral was held at Maple Glen near Grantsville, August 28. Services at the A.M.C. Home were conducted by J. B. Miller; in the meeting house by J. D. Yoder, Belleville, Pa., by J. B. Miller in German and by Shem Peachey in English. Interment was made in the Oak Dale Cemetery near Salisbury, Pa. The funeral was very largely attended, approximately six hundred people being present. Meyersdale Republican, September 3, 1931
