"Speedy" Bender, 69, of 499 Tenth Ave., Berlin, died June 27, 1984, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Berlin, son of John and Edythe (Musser) Bender. Preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Beatrice; and sister, Mildred Roetter. Survived by his wife, the former Marie Ferrel; and daughters: Mrs. William (Shirley) Riley, Berlin; and Mrs. Lonnie (Janice) Bungard, Johnstown RD 4; and five grandchildren. Brother of: Mrs. Lester (Eleanor) Bittner, Mrs. Harry (Irene) Tressler, both of Berlin; Mrs. John (Genevieve) Kovacik, Monessen; and John, Berlin. Retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. Wheel Plant in Johnstown. Member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin Sportsman's Association and Berlin delegate to Somerset County Sportmen's League Inc. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Kenneth S.
