  BENDER
  
  Melvin C. Bender, 87, Friedens RD 2, died Nov. 25, 1986, at Somerset
  Community Hospital.  Born April 14, 1899, in Friedens, son of the late
  Harry T. and Rebecca Jane (Lease) Bender.  Also preceded in death by his
  wife, the former Margaret Coleman, in 1974; an infant brother, and two
  sisters:  Dorcas Ream and Mable Cassidy.  Survived by sons:  William H. and
  George B., both Friedens RD 2; and daughter, Mrs. Dwight E. (Frances)
  Younkin, State College; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.  Former
  postmaster of Friedens.  Member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Mechanics
  Lodge of Friedens and U.S. Postmasters' Association.  Charter member of the
  Friedens Volunteer Fire Company.  Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Thursday
  at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home.  Service will be held Friday at 2 p.m.
  at the Friedens Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James R. Ling officiating. 
  Interment, Friedens Lutheran Cemetery.  The body will lie in state at the
  church from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
