Born Sept. 2, 1926, in Derry, son of the late Andrew and Anna (Koval) Benedict. Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose Prah; one son, Gerald J., and one grandson, Anthony Benedict. Survived by second wife, Patricia (Schuck) Benedict, and these children: Terry and Joseph Jr. both of Somerset; David (Penny), Somerset RD 7; Darlene (Edwin) Bauer; Sandy (Barry) Walker, Somerset RD 2; and Debi Barnett, Van Nuys, Calif.; two stepchildren: Rosemarie Ponziani and Joseph Schuck II, both of Hooversville; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: John of Derry; Charles of Latrobe; Elizabeth Joe of Derry; and Annie Vinosky of Hollsopple. Veteran of World War II; served in the U.S. Navy. Life member of Hooversville VFW. Member of the American Legion Post of Stoystown and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Retired from Latrobe Steel. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, where wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Msgr. Samuel Tomaselli officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery.
