Benford, 60, of Rockwood, died April 29, 1978, in the Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born June 1, 1917, in Black Township, he was a son of the late Archie and Annie (Barclay) Benford. He is survived by his wife, Romane (Decker) Benford, Rockwood; three sons: Barry, C., Johnstown; Lee A. and Lynn W., both of Rockwood; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Berkey, Rockwood; one half-brother, John Benford, Rockwood; one step brother, Bruce Marker, Rockwood; three sisters: Mrs. Homer (Edna) Brant, Mrs. Cecil (Cora) Sanner, and Mrs. Wilbur (Julia) Swarner, all of Rockwood RD 1; two step sisters: Blanche Marker, Garrett; Ethel Caroulus, Rockwood RD 1, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and an infant son. He was the owner of the Merchant Hotel in Rockwood for 28 years and was also a member of the Meyersdale Elks Lodge 1951. Services were held Monday at the William J. Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Hazelett officiating. Interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery. The Republic, April 27, 1978 [B1123]
