"Iron Mike" Benko, 50, Mundys Corner, formerly of Windber, died May 13, 2001. Born June 13, 1950 in Windber, son of Michael C. and Mary D. (Brunetto) Benko. Preceded in death by father and best friend, "Gunk." Survived by beloved mother, Windber, his precious children: Amy Marie Benko, Windber, and son Michael John Benko, Orlando. Brother of Mary Ann Benko, Milwaukee and long-time girlfriend Sheri Korus. Forever remembered by special friends Jim Turcato, flying buddies Jim, Nick, Steve, Barney, Tim, Dan and most of all Fredo. Employed by JP Food Services. Lived everyday of his life to the fullest, either riding his infamous Harley or flying his plane. "Ride Hard Live Free" were words he lived by, he always kept his family and his friends in his heart wherever he went. The pride he had in his heart for his children, Amy and Mike, was imminent, they were his greatest accomplishment, they were in his heart and soul. "The universe is unfolding as it should" "Live well, laugh often and Love much." Member of FAA and APA. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Meek Funeral Home, Inc., Windber, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. David McGee will officiate.
