Benning, 78, of Fairhope, died July 11, 2002 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1923 in Allegheny Township, he was the son of William H. and Bessie (Hartge) Benning. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Ellen (Ohler); children: James F. Jr., married to the former Linda Hunter, Windber; Dorothy, married to Dale Hartman, Glencoe; Barbara, married to James Latshaw II, Somerset; grandchildren: Donald, Jamie, David, Bruce, Brian, Susan and Stephanie; one great-grandson, Trey; brothers, Merle, Ralph, and Kenneth; and one sister Leona Chaney. He was a self-employed farmer and retired from PennDOT. He attended Fairhope Community Church, was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, member of Berlin American Legion, Harry Fisher Post 445, "Last Man's Club" and the N.R.A. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Bradley E. Reider officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Miller Cemetery, Fairhope.
