"Alf" Berkey, 69, of Friedens RD 1 died Jan. 28, 1994, at Somerset Hospital. Born Aug. 24, 1924, in Windber. Son of Harvey and Annie (Orris) Berkey. Preceded in death by parents and brothers Richard and Wilbur. Survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Rosy Fritz; sons James of Friedens RD 1 and Douglas, Married to the former Deborah Burley of Stow, Ohio; grandchildren Anthony, Chad, Bradley, Jessica and Sarah Berkey. Brother of Edward and Jerry, both of Windber, and Harold of Cape Coral, Fla. He was the owner of Berkey's Camp Hartley, Bedford. Former owner and operator of Berkey's Exxon, Friedens, for over 30 years. World War II Army veteran. Member of Friedens, Lutheran Church, Somerset FOE, and American Legion, LOOM, and Sportsmen Club, all of Windber, and Bedford VFW and Johnstown TPA. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Friedens Lutheran Church. The Rev. James R. Ling officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
