  BERKEY
  
    Joyce Madeline Berkey, Friedens, 74, died March 13, 1999, at Somerset
  Hospital.  Born Aug. 7, 1924 in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Herbert
  Floyd and Vera Hazel (Miles) Sowers.  Survived by husband, Vernon Glessner
  Berkey to whom she was married 51 years and these children:  Michael Eugene
  Berkey, married to the former Joanne Lo of Roanoke, Va.; Mrs. Vera Ellen
  Moog of California, Md.; Mrs. David (Leah Sue) Selby of Edgewood, Md.; 2
  grandchildren;  James Nathanel Berkey of New Windsor; Mrs. Tony (Stacy
  Noel) Walker of Brooklyn, Md; 1 great grandson, Robert Antonio Walker Jr.
  Sister of Evelyn Fay Bender of Friedens.  Member of St. Paul's Presbyterian
  church.  A 1942 graduate of Johnstown High School.  Benefactor of Running
  Strong for American Indians, former member of both Maryland and Ohio State
  Garden Clubs.  No viewing or visitation.  Memorial service will be
  conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset with
  the Rev. Keith M. Fink officiating.  Please omit flowers.  Contributions may
