Berkey, 65, Somerset RD 2, died Aug. 9, 1983, in the Eye and Ear Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 15, 1918, in Johnstown, a son of Edna (Shaffer) Berkey of Jennerstown and the late Atley Berkey. Survived by his wife, Dorothy (Sicheri) Berkey, and two sons: Lt. Col. Richard D. married to the former Sharon Gorham, Springfield, Va.; and Robert W., married to the former Janet Smith, Gettysburg; also 5 grandchildren. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, Somerset VFW, Post 554, Samuel Crouse Post 181, American Legion, Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, Republican Century Club, Mountain Field and Stream Club and Jennerstown Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (today) in Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Friday 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Walter Willey officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
