Berkheimer, 60, of Elmcrest, Hyndman, died Wednesday, February 14, 1990, as the result of a two-vehicle traffic accident on Pennsylvania Route 96. Born March 27, 1929, in Londonderry Township, he was the son of Howard C. Berkheimer, Avalon Manor, Hagerstown, Md.; and the late Ruth (Logsdon) Berkheimer. He was also preceded in death by one grandson. Employed for the past 40 years as a carman for CSX Transportation, Cumberland, Md., he previously worked at the Amcelle Plant of Celanese Fibers Corporation. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served aboard the USS Valley Forge, he was a member of Cooks Mills United Methodist Church. A member of the church board of directors, he (line illegible and faded) teacher and superintendent of Sunday school classes. He was also a member of Hyndman Grange 1954, Maryland Local 6656 Transportation-Communication International Union, and the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America. Also surviving are his widow, Vivian P. (Hyre) Berkheimer; one son, Master Sgt. Steven L. Berkheimer, Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters: Mrs. Cynthia L. Yoder, Hyndman RD 1; and Mrs. Susan A. May, Buffalo Mills RD 1; one brother, Frank D. Berkheimer, West Chester; one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Williams, Reisterstown, Md.; two grandsons and one step-granddaughter. Friends were received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman where services were conducted in Cooks Mills United Methodist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Joseph R. Stains. Interment, Porter Cemetery near Ellerslie, Md.
