Berkley, 80, of Berlin RD 3, died unexpectedly July 22, 1971. Born Nov. 27, 1890 in Brothersvalley Township, a son of Lewis and Sarah (Hay) Berkley. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Lucille Gnagey; his parents; a brother and sister. Survived by his wife, the former Anna Hay and these children: Van G. of Somerset; Mrs. Raymond Barron, State College; Mrs. Donald Steele, Harrisburg; Lewis W., Berlin RD 3; and one sister, Mrs. Horace Landis, Berlin RD 1. Also 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Member and elder of Hay's Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. Director of the Philson National Bank of Berlin for the past 40 years; elected president of the bank Jan. 9, 1962, an office he held at the time of his death. A 25 year member and past president of the Berlin Lions; member and past noble grand of the IOOF Lodge, Berlin. Member of the Somerset County Fair Association. Director and treasurer of the Farmers Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Somerset County. Fifty year member of the Hillcrest Grange. Served for 18 years as a member of the Berlin-Brothersvalley District School Board and as a member of the Somerset County board. Somerset Bulletin, July, 29, 1971 [B1340]
