Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Meyersdale, a son of the late Harvey and Martha (Ackerman) Berkley. Preceded in death by his second wife, Constance Berkley; siblings, George Berkley, Earl Berkley, Orpha Weslow, Naomi Henry, Velma Berkley, and Goldie Berkley; and a nephew, Merle Berkley. Survived by daughter, Linda S. Berkley; stepson, Gordon Carpenter Sr.; stepgrandson, Gordon Carpenter Jr.; and nephews, George Berkley Jr. and wife, Norma; Wayne Berkley and wife, Joanne; Lewis Berkley and wife, Sara; Mayford Weslow Jr. and wife, Ann; Ronald Weslow and wife, Onalee; and James Henry Jr.; nieces, Mary Ellen Wilson and husband, Jack; Anna Katherine Ash and husband, James; Jane Werner and husband, Harold; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. He is a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific region. Retired from Queen City Brewery. He worked at Frostburg College. He was a member of the Cumberland Md. Moose, American Legion, VFW and Eagles. A graveside service was conducted Jan. 12, 2007, at the Frostburg Memorial Park. The Rev. Frank E. Harpster III of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Meyersdale officiated.
