(U.S.A.F. retired) John Richard Betters, 79, of Somerset RD 2, died May 7, 1993, at the Desert Samaritan Care Center, Mesa, Ariz. Born Dec. 6, 1913, in McKeesport, son of the late George and Nellie (Thomas) Betters. Preceded in death by three brothers: Dominic, James and George Betters; and by a sister, Jenny Betters. Survived by a son, John R. Betters Jr., married to the former Marjorie Baker of Somerset RD 2; and three grandchildren: Lisa Marie Betters and Mrs. Vincent (Kristen Anne) Higgins, both of Phoenixville, Pa., and Darren John Betters, Somerset, RD 2. Brother of Thomas Betters of Boston, Pa., Richard Betters of Duquesne, Pa.; Mrs. Joseph (Nancy) Veitz and Mrs. Michael (Mary Ann) Pici, both of McKeesport; and William Betters, Marblehead, Mass. Also survived by close friend and companion, Elizabeth Lytle, of Somerset RD 2. Retired U.S. Air Force pilot, serving in World War II, Korean War, Dominican Republic, Cuban Crisis and Vietnam War. Former owner and operator of Sunny Acres Mobile Home Park of Somerset. He had owned and operated the former Betters Ford Coal Company of Acosta and the former Roof Garden Drive-In Theater. Member of Somerset Rotary Club, B.P.O. Elks of Bedford, American Legion Post 181 and the Somerset Aero Club. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. Samuel J. Tomaselli, Celebrant. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
