Bingham received the full charge of a shotgun in his back, some of the pellets emerging from the abdomen. He was removed to the Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md., where he passed away at 5 o'clock p.m. the same day. Prior to his death Bingham said Kerchner had loaded his gun preparatory to entering the woods and that the shooting was accidental. Kerchner said he had placed a shell in the barrel of the shotgun and that as he closed the gun the shell was discharged. Bingham was standing only five feet away at the time he received the charge in his back. Irvin Bernard Bingham is survived by his parents, Jesse and Malissa (Gillin) Bingham, and these brothers and sisters: John and Clyde Bingham, both of Hyndman; James Bingham and Mrs. Elmer Ranker, both of Gravepit, near Hyndman; Mrs. Earl Dawson, of Hyndman, and Richard, Herman, Foster and Pauline Bingham, all at home. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Madley Church, in charge of Rev. Charles Evans, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, December 8, 1932
