Born June 11, 1925 in Somerset, son of Reuben and Binnie (Kimmel) Birch. Preceded in death by parents, wife, the former Thelma Kincaid in 1993, brothers Harry and Maurice and sisters Priscilla King and Althea Mathias. Survived by daughters Linda, married to William Marshall of Boswell and Virginia Boncoski of Hooversville; grandchildren Rodney Shaffer Jr., Michele Fondelier, Christopher, Matthew and Joseph Boncoski, James and Maliwann Marshall: 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters Dorothy Hosteller and Mae Keith, both of Hooversville. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran. Retired from Bethlem [sic] Steel, Johnstown and an avid championship skeet shooter. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, 976 Barn Street, Hooversville where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. C. J. Ickes and Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Interment POS of A Cemetery, Hooversville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Stray No More Animal Shelter.
