J. BIRD, the Reverend Andrew Jackson Bird, pastor of the Calvary Evangelical Church of Johnstown and a former presiding elder of the Franklin and Somerset districts died in the Memorial Hospital on Sunday of afternoon of cancer of the stomach after a half year's illness. Three months ago he gave up his work and underwent an operation in Pittsburg, he gradu[sic] grew worse. Born near Confluence, Aug. 5, 1855, the Rev. Mr. Bird was a son of the late Noah Bird, a Mexican War veteran. He attended the public schools near Confluence and later entered Indiana State Normal, where he prepared for teaching which he followed until about 1880 when he was admitted to the Pittsburg conference of the Evangelical Church. Besides his mother, Mrs. Mary Bird, of Confluence, he is survived by his wife and one son, Rev. H. H. Bird, of Springfield, Ohio. Meyersdale Commercial, May 20, 1915
