'Birdie' 10/04/07 Daily American Grace A. "Birdie" Bird, 99, Greensburg, died Oct. 3, 2007, in Green Meadows, Latrobe. She was born July 26, 1908, in Addison, a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Sara Heydenreich Augustine. Birdie was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Chester S. Bird. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Frederick B. Augustine. She is survived by a brother, Marshall T. Augustine, Addison; a niece and three nephews. Prior to retirement, she had been employed as a teacher in the Uniontown School District. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Greensburg where she was a member of the Beth Circle and the WELCA. She was a past president of the Women's Missionary Society of the former Pittsburgh Synod, was the first president of the former United Lutheran Church Women of the former Pittsburgh Synod; she had served seven years on the American Board of the Women's Christian College in Madras, India and had sponsored 20 girls in the School for Girls in Rajahmundry, India. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Barnhart Funeral Home, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Zion Lutheran Church, South Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg. The Rev. Bishop Alexander L. Black, the Rev. Bishop Paull E. Spring, and the Rev. Gene R. Stuckey, Sr., is co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Jersey Cemetery. As expression sympathy, should friends desire, memorials may be placed with Heartland Hospice, 3520 Route 130, Bldg. 3, Irwin, PA 15642.
