Bird, of Connellsville, was found dead in bed at his home on Friday, July 12, by his wife, Mrs. Margaret (Stein) Bird. After the funeral Mr. Bird returned to his home in Connellsville, intended to work the following day, and Mrs. Bird remained here to attend the funeral of another nephew, James Seggie, in Frostburg the following morning. Upon her return to her home in Connellsville on Friday evening, Mrs. Bird found her husband dead in bed, having passed away several hours previously. Mr. Bird was born in Nottingham, England, Jan. 25, 1884, and came to this country as a young man. He was a fast freight division engineer on the B & O Railroad, and was in the employ of that company for almost 37 1/2 years. There are also three step-sons, William A., James R. and John E. Stein, all of Connellsville, and two step-daughters, Gladys M. Crise, and Margaret R. Stein of Akron, Ohio, and four step-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted last Tuesday afternoon by Rev. M. J. Roth, pastor of the Connellsville Lutheran Church, in the absence of his pastor, Rev. William Hetrick. He was laid to rest beside his first wife, Hannah (Brown) Bird in Hill Grove Cemetery, Connellsville. The many beautiful floral tributes as well as the numerous friends and relatives who called at the Bird home were symbolic of the high esteem which Mr. Bird was always regarded.
