Bittinger, retired coal miner, died at the home of his son, Frank Bittinger, on Route 1, Salisbury, on January 21st at about 1:00 a.m., of bronchial infuenza. He had been in poor health for about two years prior to his death. Mr. Bittinger was born in Garrett County, Maryland, on October 12, 1870, a son of Jacob and Ellen (Facenbaker) Bittinger and was 76 years, 3 months and 9 days old. His wife, the former Mary Hoover, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. He is survived by 7 sons: Lawrence, Daniel and Frank, all of Salisbury; Jesse of Grantsville, Floyd and Irvin of Jennings, Md., and George of Somerset; three daughters, Mrs. Minerva Beakley [sic?] and Mrs. Lanna Beeman of Somerset, and Mrs. Lena Beeman; four brothers: Ernest of Uniontown, Pa., Harrison and Jacob of Loanconing [sic], Md., and Archie of Grantsville; one sister, Mrs. Lavina Witt of Barton, Md., and 55 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren on Thursday, January 24h at 10:00 a.m. Interment in the Newton Bittinger Cemetery near Jennings in charge of Mortician Stanley M.
