He was the son of Solomon and Hannah Faust Bittinger. In early life he accepted Christ as his Savior, uniting with the Church of his parents. Later through fellowship and association in the church of the community in which he lived, and learning that some of the things God in his Holy Word commanded were no longer followed in his church, and not feeling satisfied with infant baptism, he requested membership in the Springs Mennonite Church, and was accepted by baptism Feb. 19, 1930. To this faith he was faithful until his death. He was married to Susan Fuller, daughter of David Fuller, December 4, 1877. To this union were born two sons and two daughters, Elmer, Florence, Mabel, and an infant son who preceded him to the other world. There remain to mourn his departure, his wife, one son, two daughters, seven grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and a host of relatives and friends, scattered far and near. Of a family of nine sons and three daughters, there remains but one sister to mourn his departure and she being the oldest one of the family. One sister died just eight days previous. Mr. Bittinger became ill during the week of March 22-29, with pleuro- pneumonia, developing from a cold. He followed his work until it was apparent that he was unable to stand it any more, when he was put to bed. His condition seemed to have been better until the last day when he became worse and passed away suddenly. The funeral services were in charge of S. G. Shetler of Johnstown and J. A. Ressler, of Scottdale. A quartet sang "No Disappointment in Heaven," and "Sometime We'll Understand." Other hymns were used at the church, one especially requested, was "I am Trusting in My Savior." The services were held at the Springs Mennonite Church, Saturday, April 25. Interment was made in the cemetery near by. The pall-bearers were D. D. Otto, S. S. Miller, J. H. Bender, N. S. Maust, S. L. Maust and C. F. Killus. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lee, Mrs. Naomi Benard and Mrs. Barbara Bittinger, from Mt. Lake Park, Md.; Milton Bittinger, Crellin, Md.; Mrs. Bert Bittinger, son Harold and daughter Nora, of Oakland, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fratz, Accident, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Brenneman, McHenry, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ammerman, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Platter and children, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller and children, Jennings, Md.; Robert Fuller, Mrs. Lavina Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Shroyer and son Russell, Jerome, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. C.
