BITTINGER Mrs. Mary Louise Bittinger of Bittinger, Md., widow of Samuel Wilson Bittinger, passed away Wednesday, March 15, at her home near Grantsville, Md. She had been ill about 6 months and her death was not entirely unexpected. She was born near Accident, March 21, 1873, and was nearly 70 years old. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Caroline (Gohr) Hetrick, early residents of Garrett County, Md. She married Samuel Wilson Bittinger Jan. 16, 1893. Nine children were born to them, two of whom preceded their mother in death. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Verna Robert, Marshfeld, Ore.; Dewey D. Bittinger, Akron, O.; Mrs. Harlene Braden, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Mabel Stanton, Bittinger; Mrs. Cora B. Frickey, Grantsville; Mrs. Mary Larue Robeson, Avilton, and Kermit C. Bittinger, Grantsville. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Lloyd Hetrick, Carleton, Neb.; and one sister, Mrs. Viola Montague, Addison, Pa. Her eldest brother, Edward Hetrick, Carleton, Neb., preceded her in death last November. Mrs. Bittinger was a devoted member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren where the funeral service was conducted last Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J. C. Beahm, pastor of the Maple Grove Church, and Rev. Howard Whitacre of Westernport, Md., officiated at the services. She was a kind and devoted mother and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. The pallbearers were namely: J. W. Keefe, Elmer Johnson, Norman Baker, Root Beachy, Jarius Resh and William Dietle. Interment was in the church cemetery. Among those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. William E. Bittinger, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bittinger, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Bittinger and son Clay, all of Akron, O.; Mrs. Harlene Broden, Washington, D.C.; Nephews, Lloyd, Glenn, John and Harry Suo, and niece, Beulah Sue, Olean, N.Y., and J. F. Bittinger, Hagerstown, Md. Meyersdale Republican, March 23, 1944
