Mrs. Bittinger had been failing for about three years and had been in and out of the hospital a number of times in those years. She finally passed away of cerebral thrombosis after a gallant fight for life. She was born January 1, 1856, in the house at Sullivan's Lane where V. A. Stangarone and family now reside, a daughter of Elizabeth (Caton) and David Fuller. She was married to Henry Bittinger on December 4, 1887, and enjoyed nearly 54 years of wedded life until he passed away in 1931. She was a life- long member of the Springs Mennonite Church, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She is survived by two daughters: Miss Florence Bittinger, postmistress of Springs, and Miss Mabel Bittinger of Scottdale; by one son, Elmer Bittinger, Springs, and by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. in the Springs Mennonite Church with Bishop Roy Otto and the Rev. Mr. Horst officiating. Interment in the Upper Springs Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, July 29, 1948
