He swam to a rock a short distance away from the group of friends with whom he was swimming, and apparently was drowned before his absence was observed. The Connellsville Fire Department was summoned and while dredging the river, soon found his body a short distance down stream. He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Larimer Township, a son of Edgar and Clara (Wright) Bittner. Several years ago his family moved to 217 Keystone Street, Meyersdale, where they now reside. Claude was employed as a B & O telegrapher in Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Glenn, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Theodore Rembold, Meyersdale R.D. 3, Ross of Cumberland, and Fern, at home. Brief services will be held at the Bittner home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, after which the funeral will be held in the White Oak Reformed Church, in charge of Rev. J. E. Gindlesperger. Interment will be made in the church cemetery, under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, June 27, 1946
