Born Feb. 13, 1905, Mr. Bittner was the son of the late William and Corra Bittner, Rockwood. Graduated from Rockwood High School in 1924, Mr. Bittner continued his education at Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa., where he was graduated with a major in mathematics in 1928. Later he received a master's degree in mathematics from Penn State University, University Park, Pa. Upon finishing his formal education, Mr. Bittner became a faculty member of the Altoona Public School System, where he began as an algebra teacher at Keith Junior High School, after which he taught higher mathematics at Altoona Senior High School. In 1946 Mr. Bittner moved to Greensburg, Pa, where he became an insurance salesman until his retirement. In addition to his life as an educator and as an insurance salesman, Mr. Bittner was also an ordained minister of the Church of the Brethren. In 1932, Mr. Bittner married Valma Elizabeth (Barnhart) Bittner, his wife of 47 years, who died in 1979. Mr. Bittner was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary, and a brother, Foster. Mr. Bittner is survived by one brother, Emmert, Rockwood; one nephew, Conroy Guyer, Pittsburgh, and one sister-in-law, Audrey Helen (Barnhart) Guyer, Greensburg. Friends will be received at the Bacha Funeral Home Inc., 516 Stanton at Green Streets, Greensburg, from noon until 1 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. William A. Waugh officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
