Bittner, aged 58, died last Friday evening at 7:12 at his home on Center Street, after a long lingering illness. Mr. Bittner was well known throughout Somerset County. In his earlier life he followed the plastering trade and samples of his fine workmanship may be found in many Meyersdale homes and business places. Some years ago, when the Fraternal Order of Eagles had an active chapter in Meyersdale, Mr. Bittner held important offices in the order. At various times he was employed as a bartender in many of the leading hotels here and at Somerset, and prior to his illness, was chef at the Somerset Country Club. Mr. Bittner was an ardent Republican and took an active part in all the campaigns. He was considered one of the party's most influential workers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Stump Bittner, and the following children: Isabel, Sarah and Harry Bittner, all at home; and Mrs. George Palm, McKeesport. One granddaughter, Linda Palm, McKeesport; two sisters, Mrs. David Lawson and Mrs. John Gauntz, both of Meyersdale; and one brother, Lewis Bittner, Scottdale, also survive. A daughter, Alberta, preceded him in death November 21, 1937. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 at the family home in charge of the Rev. Nelson C. Brown, pastor of the Meyersdale Reformed Church. Interment in the Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, in charge of H. R. Konhaus, Meyersdale mortician. Meyersdale Republican, February 26, 1942
