Jack Ray Bittner, 52, of Valley Road, Cumberland, Md., died Friday, Dec. 22, 1989 in an auto accident on U.S. Route 48 near the Lower New Germany road exit. Born March 26, 1937 in Sand Patch, he was the son of Kenneth R. Bittner, Meyersdale and the late Irene (Crossland) Bittner. He was a warehouseman and truck driver for the Gauge Company. He attended Central Assembly of God Church and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was an avid hunter and member of the National Rifle Association. In addition to his father, he is survived by his widow, Shirley Ann (Steele) Bittner; two sons, Jack R. Bittner Jr., Cresaptown, MD; and Gary D. Bittner, Cumberland, MD; a daughter, Mrs. Sabrina R. Gross, Cumberland, MD; four brothers, Carl Bittner, LaVale, MD; Jerry Bittner, Bath; Larry Bittner, Robesonia; and Ronald Bittner, Colonial Heights, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Kennell, Mount Savage, MD; and Mrs. Janie Gregory, Mount Savage, MD and six grandchildren. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. Services were conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Central Assembly of God Church by Rev. Mark R. Smith. Interment, White Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers included Gary Kline, Gary Clise, James Bittner, Richard Wrachford, David Ackerman and Richard Wilson. The Republic, December 28, 1989 [B1623]
