BITTNER July 16, 1928-October 24, 2004 James Leonard Bittner, 76, of California, Pa., passed away Sunday, October 24, 2004. He was born July 16, 1928, in Sand Patch, son of the late Verna Mae Bittner. Jim was a deacon at the California Presbyterian Church. He was retired from J&L Steel, Vesta No. 5, Local 762, where he had worked as an electrician. He was also retired from the California Volunteer Fire Department, after 37 years of service. In adition to his mother, Jim was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Coatsworth. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Grace (Yutzy) Bitner; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Tempa Bittner of New Castle; and daughter, Lois Coatsworth, also of New Castle. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Michael and Lori Ann Bittner, Michele and Charles Hartman, Joseph Bittner, Jonas and Carrie Coatsworth, Philip Coatsworth and James Coatsworth; and four great-grandchildren. Friends were received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, Tuesday and until 11 a.m. Wednesday, when funeral services were held, with the Rev. Paul Min officiating. Interment followed in Highland Cemetery. The family requests that memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 146 Neely School Road, Wexford, PA 15090. New Republic, November 4, 2004
