Bittner, 83, of Meyersdale, died May 6, 2002, at his home. Born Nov. 18, 1918, in Boynton, a son of the late Howard and Mary (Hersh) Bittner. Preceded in death by his wife, Rita Mae (Robertson) Bittner, in 1983, sons, Clyde William, John Lee, Keith Thomas; son-in-law, Dewey (Jock) Shaffer; and sisters, Irene Hook, Rita Jean Wilt; brother, Howard (Junior) Bittner. Survived by daughters Donna Kay Shaffer, Meyersdale; Debbie Ann, married to James D. Zimmers, Berlin; daughter-in-law, Debra Lee (Miller) Bittner, Grantsville, Md.; sisters, Pauline LeRoy, Tucson, Ariz.; Dorothy Smith Rowe, Chambersburg; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Member of Boynton Assembly of God, Salisbury American Legion, Meyersdale American Legion, Elks, Moose. Was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Retired coal miner, construction worker and PennDOT worker. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Jay Shaffer and Rev. Sherman Berkey officiating. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be accorded by Salisbury American Legion and VFW.
