    Merle J. Bittner, 85, Fort Wayne, Ind., died Sept. 12, 1998, in
  Fort Wayne.  Born June 22, 1913, in Somerset.  Son of the late Clark
  G. and Elizabeth A. (Young) Bittner.  Also proceeded in death by
  brothers:  Roy, Edward, Clyde, Paul, Clark and Sherman Bittner. 
  Survived by wife, the former Daryl Lucille Heckman, to whom he was
  married for 61 years; daughter, Lois Jean Bittner of Warren.  Member
  of Trinity Lutheran Church.  Army veteran of World War II.  Retired
  purchasing agent for Hunkin-Conkey Construction Co. with 30 years'
  service.  Life member of Lodge 358, F. & A. M.; Elks Lodge of St.
  Mary's, Pa.  Memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday,
  Sept. 24, in the chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset, with
  the Rev. Robert L. Hoover Jr. officiating.  Interment, Somerset
  County Memorial Park.  Contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran
  Church, 918 Tayman Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501
