She was born Sept. 31, 1910 in Friedens, Pa. Daughter of the late Irvin and Olive (Lear) Wilt. Miriam grew up in Friedens and graduated from Somerset Township High School in 1928. After graduation Miriam moved to Somerset where she worked as a telephone operator for GTE. On April 15, 1942 Miriam married Clark Eldon Bittner. She was a long time active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Somerset. After 41 years of service with GTE, she retired in 1975 and became an active member of ITPA, Allegheny Mountain Pioneer Club until she moved to Trenton, Neb. in Aug. 1995. After moving to Trenton, she became involved with the local senior citizens group and attended the First Church of God in North Platte, Neb. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Clark, her parents, infant sister Katherine Wilt, sister Grace Combecker, and brother Irvin (Bud) Wilt. She is survived by daughter: Jacqueline (Jackie) and husband Pastor Ken Hazel of Trenton, Neb.; three grandson, Scott Cober of Marion, Ind.; Mark Cober and his wife Heather of Golden, Colo.; Erik Cober and his wife Rebecca of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Great-grandchildren, Dani, Scott, Justin, Cody, Kaylee, Ryan and Jeffrey; seven sisters, Lucy Ramsell of Somerset, Mildred Fluck, Davidsville, Jeanetta Baer and husband John of Geiger, Helen Twigg of Massillon, Ohio, Eileen Jay of Somerset, Nadine Airesman and husband Ray of Edie; sisters-in-law, June Wilt of St. Cloud, Fla.; Daryle Bittner of Somerset, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tayman Avenue, Somerset. The family has requested that memorials may be given to Childrens Aid Society of the Blind Society in Somerset, or the First Church of God, 3001 West 1st St., North Platte, Nebraska 69101.
