Bittner, 57, of Gray, died July 16, 1976, in Somerset Community Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1918, in Boswell, son of Lloyd J. and Susan (Gilmour) Bittner. Preceded in death by mother and infant brother. Survived by father, step-mother, Beatrice Dollard of Jennerstown; widow, the former Dorothy Pile; and the following children: Mrs. Anthony (Susan) Von Dolteren, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. Robert (Susanne) Zatko, Jennerstown; R. Craig, married to former Rebecca Lundquest, Somerset; Kim Lloyd and Cynthia, both at home; two grandchildren. Brother of: Richard, Sipesville; half-brother, James, Boswell RD 2; Mrs. James (Joan) Trayers, Springfield, Va.; Mrs. William (Nancy) Baer, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; step sister, Mrs. Robin (Dorothy) Kendall, Mobile, Ala. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Boswell Lions Club, P.T.A., Somerset Aerie F.O.E., VFW and American Legion. World War II veteran of Army Air Force and was a member of American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, having survived the Bataan Death March and was a prisoner for 41 months. Former owner of Somerset Pine Grill. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-7 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Charles R. Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Remains will be removed to Friedens Lutheran Church to lie in state from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Tuesday, the Rev. James R. Ling officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jesse E. Wolf.
