All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ SARAH LANDIS BITTNER Mrs. Sarah Landis Bittner, wife of Herman Bittner, died at her home Sunday morning, April 26th, at 1:30 a.m., at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 10 days. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Landis and was born in Shanksville June 16, 1854. She resided in Meyersdale for 52 years and was a member of Amity Reformed Church and a member of the Philathea Bible Class of that church. About seven weeks ago Mrs. Bittner fell on the floor in her home while covering the fires for the night and sustained a fractured hip as the result of the fall. She had been getting along fairly well until last Monday when blood poisoning set in and she suffered a slight paralytic stroke. She was practically unconscious from Wednesday until the time of her death. Mrs. Bittner is survived by her husband and the following children: Howard Bittner, of near Berlin; Mrs. John Gauntz, Harry J. Bittner and Mrs. David Lawson, Meyersdale; Wesley Bittner, Rockwood, and Lewis Bittner of Scottdale; also by twenty-four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, John Brant, of Somerset, and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Engelka, of Berlin. Four of her children preceded her in death. Funeral services were held in Amity Reformed Church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. B. A. Black, officiating. Interment was made in the Reformed Cemetery. Her nephew, Undertaker Edward Landis, of Somerset, had charge of the funeral arrangements. Meyersdale Republican, April 30, 1931
