Born in Meyersdale Oct. 6, 1912, he was a son of the late Irvin H. and Lydia (Hostetler) Bittner. Member of the First Presbyterian Church, California, and United Mine Workers Local 672, Vestaburg. He was a former member of California Volunteer Fire Department and the California Auxiliary Police. He was a retired repairman for the Vesta Five Mine of Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, John and Jacob, and four sisters, Verna, Maymi, Leona and Naomi. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Snyder; two sons: John T., California, Pa., and Don R., Malden, Pa.; one brother, Henry, Cleveland, Ohio; and two grandsons, Brian and Jarrod. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the John E. Greenlief Funeral Home, Fourth and Wood streets, California, Pa. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. John R. Rankin officiating. Interment, Highland Cemetery, California, Pa.
