Bittner, 77, of Johnstown, died Jan. 8, 1973, in the Memorial Hospital there. Born Jan. 23, 1895, in Glencoe, he was a son of Hiram and Sarah (Coughenour) Bittner. Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie A. Bantly; a daughter, Helen, wife of Robert Keim, of Johnstown, and four grandchildren. He was a brother of Charles Bittner, Glencoe; Samuel of Schellsburg; and Edna, wife of Clyde Cook, Johnstown. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and its Men's Bible Class, a former Sunday School teacher and served many years as trustee and treasurer of the church. He was a member of Dale Borough Council for many years, and was former owner and operator of Bittner Hardware Company in Ferndale and Dale News Agency. He was a life member of Dale Fire Company, a member of Ferndale Fire Company and a charter member of Greater Ferndale Sportsmen's Club. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon in Geisel Funeral Home, Johnstown, with Rev. Boyd E. Coleman officiating. Interment in Richland Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 11, 1974 [B1699]
