Born June 29, 1924, in Somerset, a son of the late Orlo and Margaret Bittner. Also preceded in death by wife Susan E. Bittner, who died Dec. 7, 2001, a brother, Paul Bittner, several infant brothers and sisters and an infant daughter, Karen Jean Bittner. Survived by children Judy Krupper and husband, Patrick, Berlin; Gary Bittner and wife Nancy, Somerset; Debbie Hardesty and husband, Rod, Berlin; and Virginia Bittner, Stow, Ohio; grandchildren Jennifer and Christopher Bittner and a great-grandchild, Hunter Bittner. He was a retired bus driver for Trailways. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Nashville and USS Somoly. He was a lifelong member of the New Bethlehem VFW, American Legion Post 354 and VFW Post 554 of Somerset. Friends received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bish Memorial Funeral Home, New Bethlehem, where a service will be held 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Ben Shidledecker officiating.
