Bittner, 53, died Friday morning, Dec. 26, at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Gauntz of 100 High Street. He had been ill only a few days. He was employed by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company for a number of years. He was a son of Herman and Sarah (Landis) Bittner and was born on February 13, 1888. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Verda (Lindeman) Bittner, and these children: Mrs. Margaret Hoover, Somerset; Alice, Freda and Virginia Bittner, living with their mother in Johnstown. He was a brother of Mrs. John W. Gauntz, mentioned above; Mrs. David Lawson and Harry Bittner, both of Meyersdale, and Lewis Bittner, Scottdale. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. A. O. Lorenz, at the Gauntz home where he was staying when he became ill and passed away. Funeral arrangements were in charge of H. R. Konhaus, Meyersdale mortician. Interment in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 1, 1942
